This Privacy Policy explains how Sunny ("we", "us", or "the app") handles your information. By using Sunny, you agree to the practices described here.
Sunny is a mobile application that helps you track UV exposure, tan safely, and build healthy sun habits.
Contact: sunnytanning.app@gmail.com
Sunny keeps your personal content on your device. We do not run our own servers, and we never ask for your name, email address, or an account. A small amount of anonymous usage and purchase data is handled by the third-party services listed in section 5.
Information stored on your device only:
Location data: With your permission, Sunny uses your device location to fetch local UV index and weather data. Your location is sent only to our weather data provider (Open-Meteo) to retrieve the forecast for your area. It is not stored on any server we control and is not linked to your identity.
Photos: If you use the tan analysis or photo progress features, photos are processed on your device. Photos are not uploaded to us or any third party. Because those photos are selfies, section 3 covers them in full.
Purchase data: Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not see or store your payment details. Apple processes all billing. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active and to see how many people subscribe; it receives which plan you bought and its status, never your payment details.
Usage data: We record anonymous events about how the app is used, such as which onboarding step you reached, whether you opened the paywall, and whether a purchase succeeded, along with your device model, operating system version, and app version.
Sunny's skin tone analysis runs on a selfie. That photo shows your face, so this section sets out exactly what happens to it.
What is collected. One still photo per scan, taken with the front camera inside the app or picked from your photo library, and only when you start a skin tone scan yourself. Nothing is captured in the background, and the live camera preview is never recorded.
How it is analyzed. The photo is analyzed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework and Core Image. Sunny detects the rectangle where a face appears in the frame so it knows which pixels are skin, then measures the colour and brightness of those skin pixels. Sunny does not create a faceprint or face template, does not map facial landmarks, does not use Face ID, TrueDepth or ARKit face tracking, and cannot recognise you, identify you, or match you against any other photo. The face rectangle exists only in memory during the analysis and is never saved.
What is kept. The photo is saved in Sunny's own private storage on your device so you can compare your tan over time, along with the numeric results of the scan (tone index, tan level, evenness, freckle level, and the date). No face geometry, biometric identifier, or face template is derived or stored.
Where it is stored. On your device only, inside Sunny's app container, which other apps cannot read. If you use iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup, these files are included in your own backup like any other app data. Sunny has no servers of its own, and neither the photo nor anything computed from it is ever uploaded.
Sharing. Face data is never shared with us, with any third party, or with any analytics, advertising, or AI service. The third-party services listed in section 5 (Open-Meteo, PostHog, RevenueCat, Apple) never receive your photos or anything derived from them.
Retention and deletion. Photos are kept until you delete them. You can delete a single scan from its detail screen, delete every scan at once with "Reset Progress" in Settings, or delete the app, which removes all of it. Nothing survives on our side, because we never held a copy.
We do not use advertising SDKs, we do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not share it with data brokers.
Your personal data (profile, sessions, photos, settings) is stored locally on your device using the device's standard storage. If you delete the app, this data is removed. We recommend using your device's backup features if you want to preserve your data.
The anonymous usage and subscription data described above is held by PostHog and RevenueCat on their servers under their own privacy policies. Because it is anonymous, we have no way to look up a particular person's records.
Sunny is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because your data lives on your device, you control it directly. You can:
Sunny provides general guidance only and is not a medical device. Safe-time and UV estimates are approximations. Always use sun protection and consult a healthcare professional for medical advice about your skin.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
